Palm Pre Takes Best of CES from CNET

Surely one of the big stories at CES has been the introduction of the Palm Pre, a new smartphone.  Earlier today, CNET announced that the device has won the "best of show" for CES 2009.

We've embedded a CNET video rave review and a demonstration of the new hand-held by Kent German, mobile phone editor.

Here is the video of Palm CEO Jon Rubenstein introducing the new product.

my Palm even though I finally gave up hope on Palm and bough

I think will finally be the year of the smart phone……

It does so not with the brazen indifference of recent but with care and purpose

And that's before the next generation iPhone device and OS are introduced.

My wife's Palm Pre (which is absolutely pristine) developed cracks about six months after she got it, on the screen near the button and is absolutely defective ! Once cracked, it is unusable.

Neither Sprint nor Palm will repair/replace it under warranty, and now I have had to file a complaint with the FTC. Looking for other users to start a Class Action Lawsuit.

Hi Guy's,
, Palm is officially doomed. They were doomed before, but now that they admit that they won't have a phone most of the world can use (GSM) running this OS any time soon, they effectively told RIM, Apple, HTC and Google not to worry one bit.

Hi Guy's,
It does look, at long last, as if truly usable smart phones may be upon us. I've still got tons of data in my Palm even though I finally gave up hope on Palm and bought the iPhone 3G. It's a great device, but there is still room for huge improvement. With Palm now in the fray, along with Andriod and Blackberry pushing the advances, I think 2009 will finally be the year of the smart phone.

Congrats to the Palm Pre, cant wait for this device to become available

"Pre's introduction, website, technology packaging, industrial design, UI, product naming and positioning...down to the flow of its CES presentation were pointedly, but perhaps not surprisingly, Apple-like. Of all the current iPhone competitors, Pre clearly captures the "soul" of the iPhone as much as any product not-from-Cupertino can. Whatever Pre "borrows" from the iPhone, it does so not with the brazen indifference of recent iPhone-killers, but with care and purpose."

However:

"Palm is clearly late to iPhone's party. By the time the first Pre is sold, the iPhone will likely have 30 million users in 70+ countries, 15,000 apps, a huge developer and peripherals ecosystem, perhaps a third of the market share and 40% of smartphone revenues. And that's before the next generation iPhone device and OS are introduced."
