Discovery Inc. today announced that Jon Steinlauf will be the future chief U.S. advertising sales officer for Warner Bros. Discovery, the company being formed in the merger between Discovery Communications and WarnerMedia. Steinlauf has more than 35 years of sales experience and will report directly to Bruce Campbell, future chief revenue and strategy officer for the company, according to a statement.

Beet.TV in June 2020 hosted a video chat between Steinlauf and Doug Ray, who became chief product officer of Dentsu International in 2021, about the shifts in viewing habits and how streaming complements linear TV.

“We think there’s going to be a shortage of ad-supported impressions for upscale female viewers,” Steinlauf said in the interview. “Those are the viewers that are moving over to streaming services more frequently.”

Steinlauf most recently was chief U.S. advertising sales officer at Discovery, where he managed sales, developed new and convergent revenue streams. He also oversaw research, marketing and branded entertainment, pricing and planning and inventory control.

Before joining Discovery in 2018, Steinlauf was president of advertising sales at Scripps Networks. He also served as vice president of advertising sales for Turner Broadcasting’s TBS and TNT networks (1992-2000) and director of advertising sales at ESPN (1985-89). He began his career as a media buyer at Young & Rubicam.
