Ning has 600,000 Networks, Gina Bianchini Writes in The New York Times

Gina Bianchini, CEO of Ning, writes in The New York Times that the custom-label social network platform has been deployed on 600,000 networks. She is the guest author of the article.  In September, we caught up with Gina on the campus of MIT where she was keynote speaker at the EmTech08 conference.  Handling the interview for me was Jason Pontin, editor-in-chief of Technology Review.

We have reposted the interview today.

This is great news for OpenSocial - which is definitely gathering momentum. I recently blogged about the decision of Friendster to support both Facebook and OpenSocial apps. This is good news for the momentum behind a common set of APIs, and will broaded the market available to app developers. What I particularly like about the Ning news - is that they represent a whole collection of very specialized social networks - so they are a great way to reach the "Long Tail" and people with particular tastes, which is a real opportunity to tap. Thanks for a great post!
