Kosmix: "Vertical" Search Engine about to Go "Horizontal"

Kosmix, the new search engine company well-funded by Jeff Bezos, Accel (Facebook), LightSpeed and others, creates popular informational pages around the topics of health and travel. It will soon allow individuals to create search-powered sites of virtually any personal or professional interest.

I spoke with co-founder Anand Rajaraman in New York last month.  He told me that the company will launch the new open program in "a couple of months."

TechCrunch wrote about the company in September.  At that time there was some discussion of the "horizontal" strategy. Might happen soon.

To power relevant videos onto Kosmix pages, the company uses Truveo.

Comments

Hi,
Kosmix may be best described as having a 'horizontal approach' to vertical search. Kosmix has a simple and clean interface that lets you search like in any other search engine. The results however are presented with a pretty helpful categories structure.

I've recently joined and wanted to introduce myself :)
