Yahoo! Buys Video Platform Maven for $160 Million

Maven has quickly grown as video publishing platform for large publishers including TV Guide, Major League Baseball and others.  The Boston-based company has been sold for around $160 million, the company announced.

News of the deal was first reported by TechCrunch a couple of weeks ago.

We interviewed Maven's Nick Troiano back in August and we've republished it here.  This video gives good overview of the company and its platform.

For an explanation of the acquisition, check out Yodel Anecdotal by senior Yahoo! exec Hilary Schneider.  And here's coverage in today's New York Times.

Comments

This is a nice acquisition for Yahoo. They’re paying for an established brand with a strong presence in the online video market. I really do not like Maven’s video player, so hopefully they improve the aesthetics of their current platform.
