Exclusive: Adobe Media Player Launch Delayed Until Next Year

The introduction of the much anticipated Adobe Media Player (AMP), the desktop application that allows users to download and save Flash files, will launch in Beta this year but won't have a full introduction until next year.  A spokesperson from Adobe told Beet.TV late last week:

"Adobe Media Player is planned to be available as a free beta download from the Adobe Web site later in 2007 with full availability expected in early 2008 - from Adobe and a wide range of media and technology partners.“

Flash is the ubiquitous technology to watch video. Surely, it will continue to grow as Web application.  Whether users will watch videos in the upcoming desktop application, will be interesting to see, but we will have to wait a bit more.

We have a pretty nifty demo of AMP on Beet.TV

I was in San Francisco earlier this month to interview Chris Hock who heads the Flash media group.  This is our second interview.

Chris talks about the issues of DRM and Flash.  He speaks about the vulnerability of Flash files to be downloaded without authorization via progressive download.  To more safely protect the streaming video, he says the Flash Media Server will work.

Anything displayed on a screen can be captured, whether by digital or analog means.

Recompressing such a display would usually produce artifacts, however.
