SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Television audiences have more control over the viewing experience than ever before as they connect a variety of devices to the internet to do everything from bingeing on a series to watching live sports.

“What we’re really encouraged to see, because now we have a few years of data against it, is how linear and streaming work together synergistically,” Radha Subramanyam, president and chief research and analytics officer at CBS, said in this interview with Beet.TV contributor Rob Williams at the Beet Retreat San Juan.

Instead of cannibalizing each other, linear and streaming can be complementary in engaging consumers across the demographic spectrum.

“The same programs — a great program is a great program — and they perform on linear and they perform on streaming,” Subramanyam said, “but we often see shows having a radically different median age — and therefore bringing a different consumer to those shows who may not have been exposed on linear.”
