Television has evolved from a live form of entertainment to one with live, time-shifting, on demand and streaming options. San Francisco-based Dijit has created a digital TV guide app called NextGuide to help viewers keep up with television content discovery across live TV, streaming and more.

We spoke with Jeremy Toeman, CEO of Digit, at the TV of Tomorrow conference in Manhattan about the new app.

Toeman explains, "NextGuide is your next generation TV guide.  It lets you search across live TV, combined with Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and iTunes all in one view, set alerts and reminders, bookmark stuff, find out what your friends are watching through Facebook—it’s basically a kind of TV guide reinvented for the modern era."

NextGuide is the first app that lets users search across TV listings and streaming sources at the same time—something that Toeman believes will become increasingly important.  "I think we’re entering an interesting era of TV watching," he says.  "The future is going to be much more about on demand and streaming…so we think that being able to find out where content is will be one of the biggest challenges for consumers in the future."

The company launched the app in September.
