The Journal Register Company, a large newspaper group with 324 publications in the local markets of 10 states, is quickly scaling its online video offering by providing video cameras to its editorial staff.

Unlike most video journalists who need to edit locally on a program such as Final Cut, or send files to a video editor to cut, the  paper's reporters upload to a Web-based editing system which allows them to simply edit and publish directly in the the content management system.

The JRC is the first implementation of Syndicaster system from Critical Media.  Syndicaster has been widely deployed by local television stations and some networks including Bloomberg Television, who have use the system to convert linear news programming into video clips for the Web.

We spoke with Critical Media CEO Sean Morgan for an explanation of Syndicaster, a demo and an explanation about how his program is bringing efficiencies to publishers.

The JRC announced the use of Syndicaster last month.
