Scott Kirsner, Editor of CinemaTech and contributor to Variety, will be one of the hosts of a conference called “The Conversation” taking place October 17-18 in Berkeley. The focus will be on the interaction of cinema, online video, and games. Andy interviewed Kirsner last week at the EmTech08 conference at MIT.

Liz Gannes writes today that NewTeeVee readers can get a 10 percent discount to the conference.

Unlike many digital media conferences, The Conversation will be geared more toward content creators than software developers, Kirsner says. Instead of watching demos, attendees will participate in “fireside chats” and roundtables.

In the segment, Kirsner also discusses his new book, “Inventing the Movies: Hollywood’s Epic Battle Between Innovation and the Status Quo, from Thomas Edison to Steve Jobs,” which came out in September.

We wish we could make it to the conference; hope you can.
