Jorma Ollila, the long serving chairman and CEO of Nokia was in Manhattan today for the announcement of the finalists of Finland’s Millennium Technology Award.  The event took place at the New York Academy of Sciences.

Ollila, who is no longer CEO but holds the title of Chairman at both Nokia and Royal Dutch Shell,  was interviewed on stage by Jason Pontin editor of MIT’s Technology Review.

In summing the global importance of technology, Ollila told Pontin that "if you apply technology properly, it a great equalizer."

It was a great honor to meet Ollila.  I told him how I plan to get a Nokia N95 for my video news gather.  He remarked how impressed he’s been with the the use of the phone by Reuters correspondents.
