Intel is expected to announce today a new family of microprocessor chips that will enchance HD video by compressing the video files.  The story was reported today by John Markoff in The New York Times.

The new chips will first be in high-end desktops and servers. Presumably the new chips will make their way to more modest priced PC’s and Macs before too long.

Earlier this year, I was at Stanford for the AlwaysOn conference were I asked organizer Tony Perkins to interview Intel’s Jerry Brandt who heads the company’s content services group.  I’ve posted the interview here.
