CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Views of video clips on Metacafe have increased by 55 percent resulting from a new accelerating technology from Akamai.  On Thursday,  I visited the headquarters of Akamai for a series of interviews with Suzanne Johnson, Senior Industry Marketing Manager.

Akamai, the world’s biggest content delivery network, with over 30,000 servers around the world, carrying a huge amount of the world’s Internet traffic, provides content delivery network services to several video networks.  Suzanne explains that unlike text content which can be cached, video has to stream immediately upon demand.  Akamai’s rich media acceleration solutions help serve videos faster, making more videos and related advertisements load more quickly.

Earlier in the week the two companies released the news.

Metacafe has been showing significant growth, reaching 7.4 million unique visitors and registering a 37.5 percent growth for this August versus August ’07, comScore reported.

It might be that Metcafe is on the way to making money with pre-roll ads?   Unlike most video sharing sites which use overlay ads or companion banner ads, Metacafe is presenting pre-rolls on some of the videos.
