In Las Vegas last week at NAB, we sat down with Bob Hesskamp, the head of engineering for CNN.  Bob received the 2008 Technology Leadership Award from Broadcasting & Cable magazine for his pioneering work in creating CNN HD, the first news network in HD.

Bob gave us an update on the massive work underway in Atlanta in converting hours of analog tapes and digital media into a unified digital archive.  The archives are being readied for both licensing to broadcasters and for use on CNN.com.

We also spoke about how newsgathering is moving to HD for both quality presentation and for greater longterm archival value.
