Caroline McCarthy, who covers social media for CNET News.com is at SXSW, the giant Web/music/digital conference still underway in Austin.

I interviewed her yesterday from my office in New York.  I asked her questions on her mobile phone and she replied via a live Mogulus connection.  (Hey, it’s not ABC News Nightline, but it works pretty well!)

Caroline says that there is no technology breakout this year, as was the case for Twitter last year.  In fact, she reports today that Twitter has greatly grown in influence among the digerati.

She says there have been some breakout personalities, including Gary Vaynerchuk of the popular Wine Library TV who gained attention and friends by shipping seven cases of wine to his hotel room!

Below is my interview with Gary, which I have previously published.
