CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The create-your-own-social-network platform Ning has now produced nearly half a million social networks, with a new one created every 30 seconds, CEO and founder Gina Bianchini says. The company will launch an iPhone application on Friday. Jason Pontin, Editor of the MIT Technology Review, conducted this interview for Beet.TV on the MIT campus.
Bianchini gave a keynote speech at the MIT Technolgoy Review EmTech08 conference yesterday, and CNET News.com editor-in-chief Dan Farber blogged about it here. Robert Mitchell at Computerworld interviewed Bianchini after her speech and asked some tough questions about Ning's advertising revenue model.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Gina Bianchini: Ning To Launch iPhone App Tomorrow:
Gina is an amazing person and a very savvy business person. Ning is a really great story to come out of the Web 2.0 world.
Their mobile initiative should be a big hit with their 500,000+ social network creators.
All the best to Gina and Ning.
Pretty informative information.I would like to say Bianchini says Ning is not targeting ads to user demographics – at least not yet – but it is targeting ads based on the subject areas of each social network. That, she argues, leads to higher “CPMs,” or the price it can charge per set of eyeballs reached by advertisers.
