Three years after first embarking on its overseas expansion, Huffington Post says the strategy is running healthily to exceed the original targets it set for next year.

“We thought back then that, if we could reach more than 100 million readers by the end of 2015, we would have created something that would be very sustainable and successful,” CEO Jimmy Maymann tells Beet.TV in this video interview.

“There were 15 markets we wanted to be in before the end of 2015. At this point in time, we’ve launched in 11 markets. With the latest comScore numbers, we are now at 115 million unique visitors. The model has worked.”

Half of HuffPo’s audience is outside the United States. Maymann says further country launches are coming in Greece and India over the next couple of months, with a version for the Arab world in January, and ongoing talks to launch in Australia, Mexico and China.
