New Apple TV Subscription Service: Not so Fast, Cautions Forrester's Bobby Tulsiani
Earlier this month, Peter Kafka at MediaMemo reported that Apple has a new initiative to sell broadcast and cable programming via iTunes for a monthly fee of $30.
Peter wrote that Apple is in the early stages of conversation with programmers but noted there are a number of hurdles.
Last week, I spoke with Forrester senior analyst Bobby Tulsiani who explained the challenges in getting this done. It's not nearly as easy as lining up the record labels, he tells Beet.TV.
Earlier in this interview, Bobby provides an explanation of TV Everywhere, the cable initiative. He wonders how and when this will roll out. Later today in San Francisco, at the NewTeeVee Live event, we expect to interview a senior Comcast executive on this topic.

What’s keeping me from getting an AppleTV is a lack of Codec (divx, xvid, almost everything) support. How come I always have to near-break every consumer Apple product to get it to do what I want?
There’s nothing essential to what Apple is offering that I couldn’t get somewhere else, while not getting locked into their proprietary video format.[PSM] Well I didn’t want to bring up the whole walled garden aspect of Apple products. I don’t expect them to support many of the popular codecs anytime soon. But sure, it would be very nice.

Hello Guy's,
I agree that this would help boost AppleTV interest, but I would not be interested in any sort of Music or Movie subscription service at all. I prefer to buy my music from iTunes and keep it. And I don't rent movies often enough (only because of the 24 hour limit) to pay a monthly fee for that either.
I WOULD be very interested in it for TV Shows for sure. And would seriously consider dumping cable in favor of being able to cue-up and watch any TV show available -anytime I want. Since I don't want to own or keep TV shows.
